Bread of Life Food Pantry
Open the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 5pm - 7pm
Highlights about how the pantry is run
The doors open at 5PM without exception ie: inclement weather
It is not "first come first serve" - upon entering the building you will "draw" a serving number (kinda like the lottery system)
Bring a form of ID - strictly for census purposes - it doesn't matter where you live.
We do offer an "express lane" - for those who find themselves with a "high serving number" and wish/need to leave sooner.
The "express lane" offers the same food without the choice ie: vegetable type, pasta type etc.

April 27, 2011 Update
Our third year begins - In April, the Bread of Life Food Pantry began its third year of operation. The pantry is located here at Newman, and is a collaborative ecumenical effort of six East Providence Churches - Bethany Church of the Nazarene, Epiphany Church, Evangelical Covenant, Haven United Methodist, Newman Congregational and St. Margaret.
In a typical month, 180 households from East Providence and surrounding communities visit the pantry. This translates into over 500 people receiving food assistance. Also each month, 50 volunteers attend the pantry openings to serve the clients and another 35 volunteers work behind the scenes facilitating the delivery, inspection, sorting and stocking of the food. Each month, approximately 4,500 pounds of food is purchased and delivered from the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, another 1,000 pounds is purchased from Price Rite, and about four 8-foot tables are piled high with food donations from the churches and area organizations. Many monetary donations are also gratefully received.
Thus the pantry hums along, working to fulfill its mission statement to "feed the hungry in our midst." But just as important is the wonderful community building that takes place among our volunteers as they work alongside one another, between our volunteers and our clients as support is given and received, and between the pantry and its donors as the ever-present need for food and money is continually met.
As our third year begins, the Bread of Life Food Pantry is committed to remaining a reliable and compassionate source of help to those in need in our community. We thank everyone for your ongoing support of this ministry.
