Boards


 

Board of Christian Education - Plans and implements the total educational ministry of the church, including youth and adult education as well as special annual events.  This board consists of twelve members.

Board of Deacons - Responsible for spiritual life of the church and the special ministries that we provide.  The Deacons consist of up to sixteen members.

Board of Missions - Educates the church in local, national, and world mission work of the United Church of Christ.  It consists of up to six members.

Board of Trustees - Oversees the building and administers our business and financial affairs.  The Board of Trustees is composed of five members. 

 

Committees


 

Church Committee - Consists of Moderator, Vice Moderator, Senior Minister, Associate Minister, the Clerk, the Treasurer, the presiding officer of each Board or Committee; the Church Educator, the Historian, three at-large members and the President of the Sr. High Fellowship. The Church Committee meets four times per year. This committee is an advisory body endeavoring to promote general efficiency of the Church, its officers and the various organizations within it, counseling their various departments, coordinating their activities, and recommending to the Church such adjustments as may seem wise concerning policy or administration.

Church Council - Meets six times per year and is comprised of representatives of all Boards, Moderator, Vice Moderator, Clerk, Treasurer and staff. Their main purpose is to enhance communications, as needed, and advise the Departments and professional staff on the effective day to day administration of church affairs.

Historical Committee - Consists of up to nine members. The Historical Committee collects and compiles all records and information of present and past historical value pertinent to the history of Newman Congregational Church, UCC.

Music Committee - Consists of up to six elected members. This committee shall be responsible for all musical equipment, instruments, hymn books, music belonging to the church and all furniture, furnishings and other equipment having to do with the musical affairs of the church.

Nominating Committee - Consists of three elected members voted on by the congregation at the Annual Meeting of the Church. The committee shall present to the Annual Meeting names from the church as nominees for the following positions: Moderator, Vice Moderator, Church Clerk, Church Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Church Historian, Members of all Boards and Committees, At-Large Members for the Church Committee and Delegates for on-going affiliations.

Personnel Committee - (details to follow)

Scholarship Committee - Consists of up to six members. The Scholarship Committee oversees special funds donated specifically for scholarships. They administer these funds in accordance with any stipulations or restrictions applied to the funds by their donors. They decide on the appropriate disbursement of funds to Newman members engaged in higher education at accredited colleges and universities or other institutions approved by the Committee.

Stewardship Committee - Plans and implements annual stewardship program and other methods of meeting our financial goals. This committee consists of up to six members.

Welcoming & Fellowship Committee - Shall consist of up to six members. This committee is responsible for the welcoming and assimilating of new members into the life and fellowship of the Church. In collaboration with the Board of Deacons, this committee plans and coordinates events designed to introduce new members to the life of the Church and serve as a resource to engage new people in appropriate aspects of church life.
